The Novato Mothers Club offers members a range of activities and events.
The NMC sponsors several free family events for members throughout the year: The Halloween Party, The Holiday Party, The PJ Party, The Easter Egg Hunt, and The Family Picnic. These large events are held on weekends or evenings so that the whole family can attend. They include crafts, face-painting, live performances, and other activities geared towards families with young children.
In May of each year, the NMC sponsors a Mother’s Social. This is a free evening event just for moms in celebration of Mother’s Day and includes wine, hors d’oeuvres, desserts and a raffle with many great prizes from local businesses.
In July, the NMC walks as a group in Novato’s downtown 4th of July Parade. Club members decorate their wagons or strollers in red, white and blue and join in the Independence Day festivities!
Speaker Presentations are also offered from time to time.
Past speaker presentations have included panel discussions with NUSD principals and superintendent, emergency preparedness, sleep techniques, and healthy cooking.
Every other year, the club hosts a Preschool Fair where Novato preschools present their curriculum and philosophy to parents.
NMC members receive four issues of the club’s online newsletter, Mother’s Ink, each term. Mother’s Ink contains information about up-coming events, re-caps of past club events, other useful club information, entertaining and informative articles, and classified ads. For more information about contributing an article or advertising visit our Newsletter Information Page.
The club hosts monthly outings for everyone, including outings for kids of all ages, activities for the entire family, and even some fun events just for moms. Major club events and mom’s night outs are held on weekends or evenings, while smaller family outings are held both during the weekday and on weekends. Family outings in the past have included trips to local pumpkin patches, Nutcracker performances, Train Town, the Marine Mammal Center, family friendly hikes and much more! Mom’s night out events have included evening mixers at local restaurants, movie nights, Sunday brunch at a winery, Bunco, and exclusive shopping events at local stores.
Playgroups are smaller groups of moms and their children who typically meet about once a week. They are a great way to find support and connect with other moms while creating lasting friendships for both parents and children. We currently have many open and active playgroups for various age ranges. Days and times when playgroups meet are individual to each playgroup. Our playgroup coordinators are happy to help members start a new playgroup if there is no active playgroup for your child’s age range or scheduling needs.
Each spring we hold a rummage sale to sell/buy all the stuff that accumulates in the garage when you’ve got children – maternity clothes, toys, strollers, baby clothes, kids clothes, etc. The club takes a percentage of the proceeds to help fund our other activities throughout the year. Only NMC members are eligible to sell items but the sale itself is open to the public.
Some of the club’s energies and resources are channelled into projects that help those in our community who have important needs. The club focuses on assisting organizations and programs that help moms and children with special needs. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Monthly Board Meetings
The board meetings held the first Wednesday of every month. Email email@example.com for information about our next meeting.
Club members offer support to other members and their families during both the joys and stresses of motherhood. Members provide homemade meals during times such as a new birth, bed rest and illness or family emergencies.
Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups provide support and networking opportunities. Make time for yourself and pursue an interest with like-minded moms. The groups list their activities in the monthly Newsletter. All members are welcome to participate in any activity that is listed, with the exception of a few groups who are limited in size due to the nature of the activity. Most groups are usually for the moms only. Anyone interested in an activity can start a “group”. Special Interest Groups change from term to term, but have included Babysitting Co-ops, Book Clubs, Healthy Cooking Clubs, Running Groups, Wine Clubs, etc.
