In an ongoing series about the fun and diverse women who make up our group, Kristiina Bailey shares a bit about her life and experiences with the NMC:
How long have you been a member of NMC? I joined the NMC in the Fall of 2010 when my son was two, my husband got a job out here, and my little family moved to Novato.
What other NMC board positions have you held? I held the position of co-chair for Family Outings for two years, I served as Secretary for one year, and am now in my second (and final) year as a Co-Director.
What is your favorite NMC-sponsored event? Now that is hard question to answer! We have so many fun events to choose from, it is difficult to narrow it down. Some favorites are the Halloween Party, The Holiday Party, The Moms Nights Outs, the festiveness of The Nutcracker, The Mother’s Social, The Easter Egg Hunt, marching in the July 4th Parade, I love them all!
Favorite place to visit: I love going to The Marin French Cheese Company. It’s a fun place to go with family to have a picnic, and run around. It’s also a great place for a photo shoot. Recently I’ve done a few really fun photo sessions with local families.
Your go-to dinner: My go to dinner is usually something that I’ve put together in the crockpot, or grilled chicken, broccoli/cauliflower,/salad, brown rice or roasted potatoes.
If you could sing one song on American Idol, which would it be? I wouldn’t. I don’t watch the show…but if I had to sing something it would be this:
Name three things on your nightstand right now: Alarm clock (which is not needed, since my son is our wake up each morning!) a black hair band, a quarter.
What was the last gift you gave someone? A Sugarloaf (a sweet treat created by a high school friend) for my mom.
If you could live in another country for a year, which would it be? Finland or Sweden, so that I could be closer to my family.
Favorite sports team: At the moment The Rattlesnakes (Novato Youth Soccer U6 Boys) is my favorite team, because my son is on it!
What’s the one song you’d like to delete from your child’s playlist right now? There isn’t anything that is standing out right now. However, I will say that last summer he was singing Christmas songs in July! Lol. But that hasn’t happened lately…
Last book you read: I just re-read My Father’s Prostitute – Story of a Stolen Childhood By Steven Whitacre.
You have found yourself with an evening sans kids. What do you do? That is rare, but the last time this happened, my husband and I went to see Deva Premal & Miten with Manose.
Anything else you’d like to add about yourself? I’d like to add that The Novato Mother’s Club has been a huge part of my life for the last four years. As I mentioned, I joined when my son was two, when I got connected with two play groups, participated in many fun events, joined the board, and met all of my friends through the club. There are lots of opportunities to get involved and have lots of fun! I will always be grateful to The Novato Mother’s Club.
